Bob’s extensive background includes millions of square feet of diverse projects throughout the Chicago area. After rejoining Alter Construction Group in 2010, Bob’s initial project was the renovation of a 70,000 SF Historic Roundhouse on Chicago’s South Side for the DuSable Museum of African American History. Currently, Bob is leading the construction-management delivery of the new north suburban Grayslake Fire Station No.3. The 10,600 SF fire station facility is located at 22405 Peterson Road at Route 60. As a CPA and 30-year veteran of the industry, Mike has extensive experience with intricate financing structures, including Tax Increment Financing, public/private partnerships, not-for-profit tax credits and joint ventures with foreign capital sources, including sovereign wealth funds.

At Alter Construction Group, Mike has been involved in projects such as the construction of Superior Ambulance’s 100,000 SF national headquarters, Elmhurst IL; the construction of Lake Center Corporate Park, Mt. As Vice President of Finance, Mike Ochs oversees finance, accounting, banking, legal issues, insurance coverage, asset underwriting, property-operational analysis, due-diligence review and lease-transaction analysis for The Alter Group. He provides expertise in reporting processes of property operations, including cash flows, NOI statements, budgeting, debt service, real estate tax administration, as well as pro forma analysis of various projects and construction options.

Primary Responsibility

As Site Project Superintendent, Mike Urick is responsible for construction monitoring and quality control. In this capacity, he establishes written procedures and schedules for all work in cooperation with the client. During construction, he performs daily manpower and progress reports, and weekly safety inspections in order to abide closely to schedules and budgets. He also maintains strict quality control over contractor performance in order to guarantee that it meets the requirements of the construction contract.

Additionally, Mike manages all necessary disruptions during the project, and provides adequate advance notice to the client. He reviews and evaluates the contractors’ supervision of their own personnel, equipment, and procurement of required materials and supplies.

Mike has nearly 30 years of construction experience with such diverse companies as Walsh Construction, Inc., and Vacala Construction Company. He worked for Alter Design Builders from 1996 until 2002, and joined Alter Construction Group in 2006.
